Motorsport Trend: 10 Essential Pieces | Highsnobiety

We already foretold the rise of racing gear as the next ubiquitous fashion trend last year but motocross gear has actually enjoyed runway rotation as far back as 2014. Marc by Marc Jacob’s FW14 menswear collection offered a salute to motorsport steez, and Ètudes Studio’s SS15 collection “MX-ISM” had models carrying helmets while wearing synthetic MX-inspired tops.

Now, it seems everyone is taking on motocross-inspired fashion. Labels like Maison Margiela, Alyx Studio, Supreme and even Berlin magazine 032c are riding hard and dirty with racing-inspired gear.

There are no signs of this trend decelerating, so with spring in sight, it’s time to ditch the down jacket for a dirt jacket and rev up your wardrobe with some sexy motorsport steez.

If you’re looking for a luxe yet authentic take on the motorsport trend, then add Alyx Studios’ black moto jacket to your rotation. The price might be rather astronomical but that’s because it’s a product of the brand’s boundless commitment to quality.

Seriously, the jacket is produced in collaboration with Spidi, a family-owned Italian motorcycle manufacturer with four decades under its belt. In fact, the motogear specialists call the Ducati racing team its client and they also specialize in highly functional pieces of apparel that can save lives.

Berlin-based fashion and culture mag 032c have extended their merch offering with an entire motocross collection. This poly longsleeve with a punchy printed pattern and fiery graphics is exactly the kind of eyesore you want in your life. The piece also features the magazine’s iconic rubber logo stamped at the cuffs. Considering 032c’s selection of garms are produced in limited quantities, its current price is pretty much a steal.

Rising streetwear upstart Neige’s racer-inspired hoodie might not give you much protection when it actually comes to motorsports, but the hoodie’s subtle racing-inspired graphic and its very agreeable price means you will at least look the part.

Downtown LA label 1992Gear prides itself on reworking streetwear staples with familiar sportswear insignia. This simple longsleeve gets some understated motorsport graphic treatment and it’s a more subdued way to take on fashion’s noisiest trend.

This London-based label has long cultivated a cool selection of motocross apparel. In fact, the brand’s head honcho is an ex-motocross racer himself. Inspired by the late 70’s to early 90’s, these Race Pants are pure retro dirt bike style. Super cool, slim-fit and made from tough and hardwearing nylon, they also boast a mesh lining and a cowhide knee patch too.

A clean, graphic cap is a slick finishing touch to any look, but 92G’s cheeky take on the automobile logo is an easy way to take this trend to the streets.

If want to take the motorsport trend to its logical extreme, then a pair of yellow leather moto pants by K20 is an excellent style maneuver. Made entirely from leather, these biker pants are fully lined and have leather appliqués running down the side.

If you’re gonna commit to the trend, then why not consider the overlooked details too? The keychain is certainly one. Supreme’s simple yet effective graphic treatment harks to the shouty visuals historically associated with branded motocross apparel.

Another killer piece from Alyx’s Spring 2017 drop. Though they’re on the expensive side, these boots are a result of the brand’s affinity for meticulous construction. Developed in collaboration with the Italian motorbike manufacturer Spidi, the silhouette is remarkable and the stainless steel slider is a great finishing touch.

Who said perfecting motorsport steez wasn’t as easy throwing on a T-shirt with a motorbike on it? The polymathic crew behind 032c certainly think it is and they’ve dropped a cotton crew T-shirt that’s screen printed with a customized 032c motocross bike. The T-shirt is only available as a limited edition of 100 so cop now, ride fast, and have no fear.
